Just spent 30 minutes trying to find some digital files I had mislaid, searched all my computers, couldn’t find them anywhere!
Finally gave up and emailed the original author of the files to ask them to resend.
Decided this time I would store the files in a good SAFE PLACE where I wouldn’t lose them. Went to that place and… Found the files were already there! 😡

The first of the three weapon crafting luck updates has landed. This week we have added Blacksmith talismans, which are crafted from flint using the Stonemason profession.
Each of the 9 talismans doubles the chance of crafting an uncommon or rare weapon in a specific category.
For Blacksmith, these categories are:
- Iron Ranged Weapons
- Cabranese Melee Weapons
- Adathril Ranged Weapons
- Flantium Melee Weapons
- Duraben Shields
- Iron Melee Weapons
- Cabranese Ranged Weapons
- Adathril Melee Weapons
- Flantium Ranged Weapons
You can craft one Blacksmith talisman in each milestone of Stonemason, starting at milestone 1. Once crafted, you must place the talisman on the appropriate forge to get the benefit. You can find more information in the Stonemason design book and in the Stonemason profession interface.

Babble has a lot to say about miner bounties, unless you remember to ask him for the short version. In his defense, there is a lot to say, but perhaps not quite as much as he would like.
Miner bounties are unlocked by reaching milestone 1 Miner, and then talking to Babble in Goblin Well. You can collect miner bounties from the miner bounty boards, which are located throughout the Mine of Mantuban. All these miner bounty boards carry the same bounties.
There are three kinds of miner bounties:
Mine only
- Mine ore to order. Break stone as stated. As simple as a bounty can get.
Blaze mining
- Weaken a rich ore seam or stone by setting a fire next to it, and then rapidly cooling the ore seam or stone at the right moment using a bucket of water.
- Once weakened, the rich ore seam or stone can be mined, giving extra items as a reward.
Rubblebug hunt
- Rubblebugs like to hide in their favorite ore or stone. To catch one, first you must mine the correct ore or stone until the rubblebug pops out. Then you chase it down and hit it with your pickaxe.

I am very sorry the chat keeps breaking. Its back online now. It worked fine for over a year and then we had 4 failures in rapid succession.
1) The hosting company switched off the box to upgrade their aircon, we couldnt just migrate to a different box because they ALL seemed to be unavailable at once.
2) Hardware failure, the gpu just died.
3) Didnt want a repeat of 1&2 so decided to migrate to a new hosting company. Unfortunately we failed to update a config file with the new address, which meant a few days later when we rebooted a DIFFERENT box it failed. This one was our error.
4) When we moved to new host we also moved to the latest version of linux distro. Unfortunately it turns out the latest version has an auto update feature which ran in the middle of the night and HALF updated the box leaving it broken. That ‘feature’ is now disabled.
So as you can see 4 completely different failure reasons, incredibly frustrating and I can only apologise.

Blacksmiths can now forge upgrades for the standard potion station. The first upgrade you install will add an action boost button to the standard potion station. Just like profession equipment, activating this action boost will give you double rewards (i.e. double XP, double knowledge and 2 potions). Subsequent upgrades will reduce the cooldown of the action boost.
Apothecary upgrades are forged from iron at the goblin forge. There is one upgrade available in each milestone of Blacksmith, starting at milestone 1. You can find more information in the Blacksmith recipe book and in the Blacksmith profession interface.

Hope people enjoy playing this quest as much as I enjoyed working on it. Something a bit... different :D

My latest Brighter Shores quest is live. I hope people enjoy it!
@AndrewCGower
Grrrayam the kobold would like your help finding his pet metaliths. He last saw them hurtling into the deepest part of the Mine of Mantuban during an ill-advised game of minecart racing. All you need to do is track them down (pun intended). If only things were ever that simple...
To start Fractured Reality, you will first need to complete the Mantuban's Legacy quest, and then speak with Grrrayam in the Truck Cave.
The lead developers for the Fractured Reality quest were Paul and Ian.
@AndrewCGower
Alchemists can now brew tree enchantment potions at the potent potion station. These potions allow you to enchant trees of your choice in Hopeforest. There are 10 different potions, each corresponding to a different species of tree.
Only a single tree of each species can be enchanted at a time. You can change which tree is enchanted by making another potion and using it on a different tree. Once a tree has been enchanted, it will stay enchanted until you choose to enchant a different tree.
The reagents for tree enchantment potions are rare drops from various Hopeport and Hopeforest combat foes. You can find all the information on the new potions, including what their reagents are and which species of tree they enchant, in the Alchemist profession interface.

Bonewright bounties have landed with a resounding thump. Or is that just the Bonetron 8000?
The goblins in the Mine of Mantuban are in a quandary. They cannot agree which weapon will be most appropriate for their newest creation. Is one-handed or two-handed better? Should the Bonetron 8000 be equipped with a ranged or melee weapon? Muddle is of the firm opinion that it only needs a shield, as everyone knows that defense is the best form of offense.
Clearly the only way to decide who is right is through exhaustive testing, and so the goblins are offering bounties for you to bring them the Guardian weapon they think is the best for the Bonetron 8000.
Bonewright bounties are unlocked by reaching milestone 2 Bonewright. You can pick up Bonewright bounties from the bounty board in the Leech Pools.
@AndrewCGower
Pickaxe resonators can now be found growing on the brambles in Hopeforest. To be able to chop out a resonator, you will need the appropriate woodcutter level for the bramble it is attached to.
Resonators are attached to your pickaxe, and each resonator corresponds to one kind of ore or rock. There is no resonator for deathstone, as deathstone is not mined with a pickaxe. Mining with a resonator gives you a 5% chance of finding a geode.
There are four kinds of geode, one for each of the Mine of Mantuban professions - Blacksmith, Bonewright, Miner and Stonemason. Breaking open a geode will give XP in the corresponding profession. It is random which geode you will find, and there is also a small chance of finding a sparkly geode which gives more XP when broken open.

I am very sorry that the chat and new account creation for Brighter Shores is currently unavailable. The rest of the game is still working.
The hosting company that provides the servers that run our chat is doing maintenance.
sorry about this, and I am as frustrated by this as you are :(

Brighter Shores Easter 2026 Event
Dorothy has been left in charge of the new Rabbit Cafe on Old Street East in Hopeport. After waking up from a well-deserved afternoon nap, she discovered all the rabbits have gone missing! Dorothy will be eternally grateful, and maybe even give you a little reward, if you help her recover them before her boss comes back.
The Easter 2026 event will be removed with the game update on 5th May 2026, after which you will not be able to recover any rabbits or claim any rewards. As with previous seasonal events, we will never make these Easter 2026 rewards available again, so now is your only chance to get them.
Steve was the lead developer for the Easter 2026 Event.
@AndrewCGower
The rock eaters have arrived in the Mine of Mantuban as part of Stonemason Bounties. These hungry blobs want you to serve up a delicious meal consisting of a freshly crafted weapon or shield. You will find that rock eaters are not as fussy as kobolds, and they will be satisfied with any weapon or shield of their favorite flavor (or damage kind as us humans might call it).
Stonemason bounties are unlocked by reaching milestone 3 Stonemason and you can pick up stonemason bounties from the bounty board in the Stonemasonry Room.
There are two kinds of stonemason bounties:
Craft only
Craft and deliver to a rock eater

Brighter Shores - Filtration Station, Kobold Arena and Blacksmith bounties are now live!
There are three kinds of blacksmith bounties:
Craft only
- Craft the weapons listed in the bounty for extra rewards.
Craft and deliver weapons to the Kobold Arena
- The kobolds in the Kobold Arena are hungry for battle, but they need the shiniest metal weapons you can make to really show off their skills.
Filtration Station
- Spongle has been placed in charge of the new filtration station, a machine designed to clean the corruption from the river. However, getting the water to the right place can sometimes be more work than one goblin can handle, and Spongle wants your help.

Brighter Shores Quality of Life Improvements Today!
This update was meant to be launched next week, but some cheeky Christmas elves pressed the wrong buttons and it accidentally went live a week early. Consider it an early Christmas present from us!
- The character select interface now shows what passive your character was doing when you logged out, and how long before it lapses and needs restarting.
- The passive activity footer now shows how long before your current passive activity lapses and needs restarting.
- When repeatedly fighting the same foe, your character will automatically choose the weapon you chose the first time you defeated the foe.
- When repeatedly crafting the same weapon, the weapon crafting interface will open with the level you chose when you previously crafted the weapon.
- After opening a bank from a storage rift, you can now press the back button to go back to the bank selection screen.
- The storage rift in Ray Bay has been moved slightly, so you can access it equally easily from Pirate Hideout and Ray Bay.
- You can now withdraw monument pieces from a storage rift.
- You can now drink potions while doing potent potions and while using the smelter, the B.R.E.W.S. vat and the T.E.A. machine.
- Viewing a recipe from the professions interface now shows only the relevant recipe, and does not interrupt your current action.
- You can now choose the level of the epic weapon you get when infusing (up to the average level of the input weapons).
- Completed quests are now sorted to the bottom of the quests interface.
- The tooltip on side quests now displays the precise level requirements.
- The game window will be restored to the same position and fullscreen state it was in when you closed the game.

Brighter Shores Christmas 2025 Event
Adothria continues to suffer from unusual weather, with snowfall occurring in the town of Hopeport, but nowhere else. Zondrin, a dwarf from Stonemaw Hill, has come to Hopeport to check out this strange occurrence. This enterprising individual is reported to have a great idea for something that can be built with all the snow that is falling...
You can start the Christmas 2025 event by speaking to Zondrin in the Town Square in Hopeport. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/G7rYmvFWYAAlwAG?format=png&name=small

You have been lucky enough to be invited to join the goblin maintenance crew. Report for duty to Thimble in the Maintenance Room immediately! For those of you who have forgotten where the Maintenance Room is, it can be found off Strange Junction.
The Maintenance Crew is a 4 ⭐️ side quest in the Mine of Mantuban, and the lead developer for the quest was Steve.

Brighter Shores is 1 year old today. In the last year we have launched:
- A heap of quality life improvements.
- Leaderboards.
- Transmog system.
- Potion Belt.
- 3 holiday events.
- Merged combat profession.
- 5 new quests.
- Player-to-player trading.
- Botanist profession.
We also have a good pipeline of in-progress stuff including a 6th quest ready to go, and a massive amount of work on project milestone already done.
The focus this year has been on making sure the fundamentals of the game are right before we make it a lot bigger. Re-engineering the fundamentals of the game is much more time consuming than creating new content, so once project milestone and the combat rework are done, we should be able to ramp up the pace of development.
I also spent over 10% of my time last year on recruitment and training and moving to a bigger office, to put us in a good position for our 2nd year.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far, we are still just getting started, so watch this space!
@AndrewCGower
The Mask Maker has arrived in Hopeport. This mysterious character has opened a pop-up mask shop inside the Abandoned Shop off Old Street East. She will be delighted to make your acquaintance, and maybe even some masks. The Mask Maker won't even charge you. You just need to bring her the correct 'raw materials'. Although it's probably best not to ask what she does with the left over pieces.
The Halloween 2025 event will end with the game update on the Monday 17th November 2025, after which you will not be able to collect any mask pieces or claim any rewards. As with previous seasonal events, we will never make these Halloween 2025 rewards available again, so now is your only chance to get them.
@AndrewCGower
Due to popular demand we now plan to launch the Brighter Shores Halloween event 1 week earlier than originally scheduled.
The halloween event is due to launch on Monday the 20th October, and will last until Monday the 17th November.
@AndrewCGower
We are recruiting for an additional game developer who can both design and code new content for Brighter Shores.

We have launched the new botanist profession into Brighter Shores today! We have also added new potions, improved forager, improved storage rifts, improved ventures, and more!
@AndrewCGower
The botanist update has not gone entirely to plan :( We are fixing as fast as possible!
@AndrewCGower
Today we have launched a new 6 ⭐️ side quest into Brighter Shores. The quest is called The Zatapajra Beast and can be started by talking to Blunkster in the Stonemasonry Room in the Mine Of Mantuban.
The lead developer for The Zatapajra Beast was Paul.
@PaulJGower
My new Brighter Shores quest is live. It is called The Zatapajra Beast. I for some reason agreed with @FenSamuel to dress thematically for the launch.
@AndrewCGowerReply
Also I can’t spell tomorrow apparently.
@AndrewCGower
We are planning on doing this weeks update tommorow (i.e on tuesday 12th Aug).
@PaulJGowerReply
Back in 2005 I played this quest without a guide in order to approve it for release into the game. I found the challenging puzzle very fun and satisfying. I’ve enjoyed seeing Guzu have a similar experience to me as I was disappointed a lot of players just found it frustrating.
@AndrewCGower
To put things in perspective, in the last week the team as a whole spent approximately 94% of their time on project milestone stuff and new quests and only 6% of their time on the safety guide (which we had to do) so its not a big deal.
@AndrewCGower
This post gives some more details on Project Milestone which we are currently working very hard on!
Project milestone was conceived specifically to address two common requests.
1) make levelling up feel more rewarding.
2) make the game content feel less recycled.
We completely understand that some players are frustrated that too much later game content is just a reskinned version of the earlier content. However just removing all the later skins without ALSO replacing them with something else that would result in the game being too short, so clearly that can't be the solution.
There are a few ways we can see to improve this:
1) Add lots more content, with new mechanics of what you DO as opposed to just new graphics. Botanist is a good example of us doing this. It is replacing the entire gatherer profession (which is essentially a recycled version of the forager profession) with a new botanist profession which works in a different way and ISNT just recycled content.
Likewise you will see we have lots of minigames planned in project milestone which again is all about adding new (optional) ways of levelling up at higher levels as opposed to just requiring the player to repeat the same mechanic with different graphics.
However as you can imagine approach 1 is very time consuming and making every single activity in the game have a unique mechanic would take a very long time. So we need more than just this.
2) Make it so the later activities are still the same mechanic, but occur in new map rooms with entirely new graphics as opposed to the same map room with just reskinned/recolored graphics. The problem with this approach is:
a) It involves making the map 10x bigger.
b) It will require a huge amount of graphics resource.
c) It wont actually make the later levels FEEL any different. They will still just be the same activity with different graphics.
We asked the players about this idea some while ago and the majority said this wasnt a good idea, or a good use of our time. And also expressed concern that expanding the map out like this would mean not meeting other players as much. This idea 2, therefore is NOT part of project milestone.
3) Make sure nothing repeats sooner than 50 levels apart (at the moment some things repeat way too soon). This means rebalancing some levels and adding a few new things to do, but is a reasonable goal.
4) Switching things up on later repetitions so for each repetition as well as getting new skins and bigger numbers, it also FEELS a bit different.
For example:
- the first time around (levels 0-49) is just the basic activity we have currently.
- the second time around (levels 50-99) adds some new (optional) mechanics such as bounties, and dungeons so as well as having new skins and bigger numbers it also gives some new ways of playing and feels a bit different.
- the third time around (levels 100-149) also throws some more activities/locations/minigames/dungeon rooms/etc.. into the mix. So again whilst is mostly the same content with new skins and bigger numbers it also has some new stuff to look forwards to.
etc...
5) Changing how the levels and repetitions are presented to make it feel more like a deliberate fun mechanic as opposed to just repetitive content. In particularly we are making it so finishing a repetition is celebrated as a big milestone with lots of rewards and unlocks at a 'milestone level' which is fun goal to work towards.
6) Once we have made sure that at least the first 100 levels of every profession feels very varied and non-repetitive, resume work on adding more episodes, so there is a greater variety of things you can do before the only thing left is the (unavoidably) more repetitive later levels.
Hopefully this gives you some more insight into what Project Milestone is all about, and how seriously we take listening to player feedback.
I am very glad we decided to launch the game early into an early access version, as we have learnt a huge amount from doing so. Project milestone which will make the game a lot more compelling wouldn't have come about at all if we hadn't launched early and so got that very helpful feedback sooner rather than later. It means in the long run we will have a much better game than if we had just developed it in isolation.
Since the early access launch we have also doubled the size of the team, so the rate at which we can do all of this is faster. The new starters are getting up to speed now so you should start seeing the impact of this investment.
@AndrewCGower
bones will be moving to ep1 forager as you can’t botany bones :)
